For those of you that watch “So You Think You Can Dance” or “America’s Best Dance Crew,” this is one of those WTF moments. Shane Sparks, the judge on ABDC, and SYTYCD choreographer who always had vaguely sexist comments on people’s dance routines, has been arrested on charges of child molestation.
Is there like a correlation between dancing ability and likelihood you’re going to molest someone? Cause, damn. Similar to the correlation between being a high school gym teacher and child molestation. Shane Sparks, whose legal name is Melvin Sparks — nice change, Shane. I don’t blame you in the least — was taken into custody at 8 a.m. this morning. He’s been the subject of an ongoing child-molestation investigation. Damn. They have the whole force trailing him. Possibly sitting behind their desks and making comments about how he wasn’t giving it his all, or his seducing was wack. The incidents apparently occurred in the ’90s, but more are expected to come forward. He’s faced with eight counts of incidents of molestation with an underage girl.
This isn’t the only sex charges to be leveled against a member of the show either. Alex Di Silva, SYTYCD’s expert on sexy Latin dancing, was hunted by the fuzz back in August on charges that he raped four of his students.
My friend took a salsa class once. And the only thing she could talk about was how weird the instructor was, how he hit on the students, and would constantly check himself out in the mirror. My guess is this is a widespread problem.
Maybe he can choreograph Roman Polanski’s trial.
