SNL Airing Christmas Special, Hosted by Gilly

I have a theory that SNL is run by a cabal of ex-football player sketch-writers. Where they’re like, let me tell you that one hilarious sketch I wrote in 1997, then reminisce for four hours and forget they have to put something down on the page. Then they throw something together involving a pop culture reference in a sketch that runs for five minutes too long. Also, there’s a Christmas special tonight.

I have fond memories of SNL Christmas sketches of the past. Nothing can ever top the “Holiday NPR sketch,” where Alec Baldwin talks about his Schwetty balls and weiners. And watching Matt Foley play Santa Claus always brings a smile to my heart. John Malkovich reading “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” like a psychopath was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. But having it hosted by, literally, one of the worst recurring characters of the last ten years makes me want to punch adorable, helpless children. It fills me with a rage that you, dear reader, cannot comprehend.

If you watch that and listen to James Brown’s Christmas Album within a two-hour span, the universe will collapse from awesome.
