I’m only writing this because I watched “Love Actually” the other day, and despite my dislike for Hugh Grant, I didn’t find myself getting irritated at his usual foppishness. And then along came a news story in which he should be heralded as a pinnacle of manliness. He bought an Andy Warhol painting while drunk, then sold it for about 18 million dollars more than he paid for it.
Well, he didn’t technically buy it. He sent his assistant to. Which is that much more hilarious.
It started as a drunken conversation with his father the night before about how he should go visit his brother in New York, because the Concorde jet was an amazing ride. So they drunkenly bought the ticket, flew to New York, and he told his assistant to buy Andy Warhol’s portrait of Elizabeth Taylor for 3.25 million dollars.
That had to be a helluva ethical dilemma. “My boss is Hugh Grant, and he is drunk. Yet he wants a painting that costs an insane amount of money. Should I wait for him to sober up, or should I just blindly follow his commands?”
Kudos to you, assistant. Now Hugh Grant has an awesome manly story to tell at parties. Many, many parties.

all things considered (including his numerous, numerous chick-flicks), Hugh Grant is a pretty great all-around guy. not that I *actually* would know, but doesn't he just seem like a fun dude too drink beers with? and, hey, what better metric to measure a man's worth than how good a drinking buddy he might be. can't see that going wrong.
