Sam & Max TO COME BACK IN 2010

Sam-Max-1This news is delightful to me as a gamer. If you ever played side-scrolling 2D adventure games like King’s Quest, Day of the Tentacle, or Monkey Island, this news will be delightful to you, as well. That is, Sam & Max, probably the most hilarious game that was ever released on a PC, is coming back in 2010.

For the uninformed, Sam was a giant sarcastic dog, and Max was a small psychotic rabbit. They paired together and solved crimes, turning the template of old buddy cop shows on their head. They solved them in a veil of absurdity, though, including bungee jumping from Mount Rushmore, making hilarious wise cracks, and encountering Sasquatch for important plot twists. To this day, it’s one of the funniest things I’ve witnessed. They even developed it into a television cartoon in the late ’90s, even if it did fall through after 24 ten-minute episodes.

Sam & Max was made by LucasArts, the branch of George Lucas’ empire that was responsible for creating video-games. More recently, it was transferred over to Telltale Games, who’ll be making the sequel.

The plot of the new game is reported to include bits of time travel, and as long as the dialogue is as brilliant as the first, I’ll probably be playing it for the next ten years.
