Weezer is one of my favorite bands of all time. They come up with better hooks over breakfast than most bands do in their entire career. Also, the last time I saw them, they put a trampoline on stage. The band would play and bounce off a trampoline, which is what I think my dream career was as a 10-year-old. And why I’m sad Rivers Cuomo was in a bus accident.
Thankfully, Rivers didn’t go all Cliff Burton on us. During an early morning trip from New York to Boston, the bus hit a patch of ice, hit a guardrail, and slid into a ditch. Rivers’ family was aboard, and thankfully uninjured, and Rivers and his assistant were taken to a local hospital to have their injuries treated. Ideally by nurses with the same taste in wire-rim glasses and nerd rock.
No word on whether or not Weezer will cancel their performance on Monday.
One thing that amazed me seeing them live was to see the size-to-rock ratio of Rivers Cuomo. The man is very clearly tiny, yet full of melodies and rhythms of cock-rock bands. And cannot even be slightly deterred by bus crashes. You keep on rocking, Rivers. You keep on rocking.
