Not only will it reduce animal cruelty, growing meat without animals also reduces fresh water usage (60% of water goes to agriculture and the majority of that goes to growing animals for food), reduces greenhouse gas emissions (check it out, you will be surprised what percent animals add to GHGs), and since another 2.5 or so billion people on the planet by 2050 - if we don't do this the price of meat will become too expensive for poorer people to buy and their children need protein and iron together for brain development. On top of that, the meant can be nutritionally improved and grown so as not to cause circulation problems. so PETA, I am very impressed that you have taken this initiative.

You do realize PETA put out a challenge to scientists to do this very thing, right? They even offered one million dollars: http://www.peta.org/feat_in_vitro_contest.asp. They'll be ecstatic I'm sure. And they certainly won't be out of jobs, there's plenty of other forms of animal abuse in the world, sadly. This is a great step towards ending the most widespread, though!
