Avatar-1

If you’re like me, there are numerous reasons to look forward to the Christmas holiday. There’s the food, the family, and the weird blue jungle people who are sitting on a mineral literally called Unobtanium in the vision of an ego-tripping, insane director. Alright, everything except for that last one. Because apparently, it sucks.

Yes, “Avatar.” It’s been 13 years in the making, but from all initial indications, and the marketing campaign, it seems like it might be a huge dud. Again, I have no idea why they couldn’t make the art direction NOT look like Delgo. You might remember Delgo, as it was one of the biggest flops in recent memory. Or not, for the same reasons.

But information is slowly leaking out about the quality of the movie, and it’s not good. Roger Ebert says, in 2D, he was thoroughly unimpressed. And now, a thoroughly trustworthy anonymous source has donated the following eyewitness report to Gawker.

“The movie itself, the story/acting/tone are alienating and weird. Of course there are very beautiful moments, with great editing/sound/art direction, but overall it’s a horrible piece of shit.”

Yes. A horrible piece of shit. I’m still going to watch it, but when my friends come back from the theaters crying about how terrible it was, I will not hold them to my bosom. Enjoy your sparkle smurfs.

I just read Ebert's review and he says absolutely nothing about not being impressed by the 2-D. He says he only saw the 3-D version and he thought it was probably the best pulling off of 3-D he's ever seen. Here is the link to his review: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091211/REVIEWS/912119998

Absolutely horseshit film. The lines were painful; the visuals ok. This movie was so bad I walked out on it, along with 4 out of the 10 in the group. Those in the group who stayed said it at least got a little more exciting with some action in the second half, but that it soon became increasingly bad when it REFUSED to just end. Another 20 minutes of stupidness and predictability would come along, jsut when they thought it finally had died. This movie was so bad. I recommend the stomach flu over this crap load!

mel is right on. beautiful to watch but I was struggling to deal with the lame plot and cheesy lines. and yes.. 20 minutes too long. maybe 30 as that battle went on.. and on.. and on... oy! can't believe that it won GG best picture. what a joke the GG award is. take your money ($18) and go see Hurt Locker.
