They’re up in arms. They’re using expressive hand gestures and verbalizing their disagreement with lilting sing-song tones. They’re a-gonna burn your pizza. They’re a-so mad, they’re gonna spit on your shoes made of inferior leather.

Italians are tired of being stereotyped in media as pasta-hungry mobsters or club dwellers, or Robert DeNiro. That’s why the have an anti-defamation league that hunts down whoever makes fun of their proud heritage and mob traditions sprung from the protection of precious citrus crops. Or the current stereotype, the “guido”, which is perpetuated by people who frolic around in orange spray-tan, tall hair, muscles induced by steroids, and will never have legitimate jobs. Except perhaps as club promoters. And that’s just the men. The women just look like variations on themes by Amy Winehouse, which was a rejected track by Chopin.

Anyway, in an advertisement for their shore — Jersey Shore– MTV touts the hottest, tannest, craziest guidos. This of course, got the guidos up in arms, and they complained. Hardcore. They have a reason, though. Guido is a racial slur. It’s like if you named a show, “LOOK AT THESE CRAZY MICKS,” which was actually the rejected name for Conan’s show when he and Andy Richter started out.

Watch the promo here. You’re going to be hearing about the show, I’m sure, and the guidos on it. Because who knows what they’re going to do with the money they get from MTV? Probably something crazy.
