Of course it's unbelieveable... because it never happened. Anyone with a computer and two brain cells could composite that together in an hour.

You see, eventhough I don't believe it's real, if something this awesome did happen no one would believe it. :(

ha faked the ball arc and bounces off the backboard, composite shot from 2 separate vids...

    November 29th, 2009 - 1:57:55 PM

it never hit the backboard, it bounced off the left side of the rim

have you ever hit a basketball with a baseball bat? the ball barely goes anywhere and the bat almost hits you in the face. its call physics. newton's third law. this video is fake however cool it looks

I don't know...I would like to call fake, but what I keep coming back to is the background noise from the lawnmower. It is constant throughout the shot. This is something an amateur would probably miss or at the very least screw up. Maybe if they are professionals or used a professional lab to edit the sequence they could get a constant humming....but I'm gonna say it is real. Nice shot guys.

this isnt fake... if that was a metal bat then yes it would be fake. my friend tried to do this with a metal bat and the bat slammed back into his eye. funniest shit ever lmaoo. but with a wooden bat then yes its possible which is what the kid has

    14

  15. Bill Billington

    December 1st, 2009 - 11:39:52 AM

This is fake, here's why: First notice where the camera is placed. It's behind the batter but not showing his full profile (cuts off just above his knees). Now watch as the pitcher throws the ball. He gives it an easy lob and the ball only makes it about half way to the batter before bouncing (even though he could have easily thrown it all the way). The ball then bounces, OFF SCREEN, before coming back up. This is where the film editing comes in. The pitcher did in fact toss the ball, but when it goes off camera, it stays off camera. What comes up is a static image of the same basket ball, inserted via a film editing program (Premiere, Final Cut, etc). When the batter swings, he is swinging at nothing. It's a very simple process on the editors part of moving the ball around through the frames to match the velocity of the swing. Same goes for when it hits the hoop, this is all done on a computer. The sounds you hear? Pre-recorded and synced with the ball's movements. Besides this, the two actors do a terrible job of convincing us of the video's legitimacy. I don't know about you, but their false surprise and awe just doesn't do it for me. Here's a tutorial that shows you how to do the same basic editing technique that these guys used. I've done it myself in my own films:http://www.wrigleyvideo.com/videotutorial/tutdes_pingpong.htm Sorry folks, it's not real.

    December 2nd, 2009 - 3:36:18 AM

@Bill Except you can see that ball rotating in the air after it comes back into the shot. Hardly static, if you ask me.

    18

  19. Bill Billington

    December 2nd, 2009 - 9:23:12 AM

@truth Ok fine, its rotating. Still easily achieved by green-screening someone throwing the ball and just chroma-keying out the green. Still fake.

    19

  20. fake

    December 4th, 2009 - 8:45:49 PM

watch the ball, you can see it goes towards the right OUT OF VIEW. then it happens to arc right at the hoop. either hes part of the trinity or its edited.

    20

  21. Fake

    December 5th, 2009 - 4:34:16 PM

it is obviously fake...anyone who has ever tried to hit a basketball with a baseball bat would know that there is not a shot in hell that this kid could hit the ball that far.

    21

  22. real

Its Real or atleast appears so, im not a video nerd so im not gonna analyze it but either way very entertaining

    24

  25. Guito

    December 11th, 2009 - 10:55:46 AM

right after the ball is hit, there is a image glitch on the entire screen, a 1 frame filcker. look a the basket zone for instance to notice it.

    25

  26. Guito

    December 11th, 2009 - 10:56:43 AM

Look a the pole zone for flicker

    I mean the basket pole.

    27

  28. Demonreborn

    December 14th, 2009 - 12:45:23 PM

All arc theories and video editing aside, I know for a fact that if they did hit a ball that hard to make it go that far, the hoop would have moved way more than it did. Have any of you had one of those driveway hoops? Thing moves in a stiff breeze, let alone a basketball shot moving with the velocity to go that far. Im gonna have to say fake.

besides the fact that it could be fake there is really nothing that proves its not real....

    December 24th, 2009 - 1:44:11 AM

you forgot to use distance calculations. look at 41-44 and watch how the ball drastically change in size.Fake

    30

  31. charles

    December 27th, 2009 - 4:28:12 PM

yeah anyone who thinks this is real is STUPID. even IF the ball the guy 'hits' was real, its trajectory was taking it up and to the right... then it comes back into the shot all of a sudden heading to the left and level/down, with way more velocity. not to mention that it sounds like a ball you play dodgeball with, not a basketball.

    January 12th, 2010 - 1:33:58 PM

To charles: its called physics u moron, when u hit a ball with a bat the ball spins causing it to curve.....basketball, dodgeball, baseball it doesn't matter. p.s. all you "expert" out there who have been watching too much csi and think they can analyze video....let me break it to you... I have spent 20 years in the motion picture industry from special effects to camera work and I can tell you that this is 99.9 percent REAL. I can give you a long list of reasons but quite frankly I am sick of typing

    33

  34. Chase

    January 14th, 2010 - 12:04:28 AM

To "me": You are a moron and are obviously bad at your job if you think this is real. The ball VERY obviously skips across the screen twice. Not to mention the composite effect is very easy to create using just about ANY video editing technology. We did this same thing in my tenth grade video tech class 5 years ago.

NO ONE GIVES TWO SHITS IF YOU THINK THIS IS FAKE OR NOT! for everthing that is slightly amazing on the internet there is some douchebag who goes "oh im a professional and i know that that is fake because obviously basketballs arn't even that size blah blah blah" STFU NO ONE CARES STOP POSTING SHIT IS FAKE

Why would a few kids go through so much pain just to make a video like this? I think this is real.

Who Cares if its fake. It still looks cool.

    38

  39. Real

    February 10th, 2010 - 8:10:30 PM

I have to say it's real, although it looks unbelievable, I can't really see any signs of an edit other than the fact that the ball goes out of frame. Everything else like where he hit it and how the ball moved looked flawless, like real gravity, spin and elasticity was with that ball.

    39

  40. Jake

    March 24th, 2010 - 6:04:53 PM

Its fake. Look at how half the yard is leafy and the other half is green and looks sketchy. Also look at the trees past the bench. Everything Past the bench is fake.

    40

  41. Jake

    March 24th, 2010 - 6:06:42 PM

Also if u look behind the trees the outline is blue. Cropped into the sky. And everything behind the bench is perfectly still.

I just wanted to make fun of this barry guys comment above mine.... have you ever played any sports? you cant hit a basketball with a baseball bat very far. it is actually a training exercise for pros because you cant hit it very far. If a pro cant hit it more than 100ft these kids def did not. it could b real but they are not using a basketball
