U2 Broadcasting Concert Live From Pasadena

By Mark Lorenz on October 25th, 2009

SRSLY, GUYS. Don't touch my hair.I’ve never seen a U2 concert. Never been a big U2 fan. But tonight, they’re doing something incredibly cool. They’re broadcasting their concert, free of charge, on Youtube. That’s right, U2 and Youtube. Create your own Abbott and Costello routine. I drove by Pasadena the other day, and there were barriers, warning us of U2’s impending show. Right now, U2 is the biggest band in the world, in terms of ticket sales and revenue. Although the Beatles and Elvis have had a stranglehold on the album sales charts, U2 sell out arenas wherever they go, and always link themselves to efforts to stay modern. The latest is the YouTube feed. You can watch U2’s Live Show. Granted, I’ve always identified with smaller, scrappier bands. Such as Iggy Pop. The whole bloated, arena-rock thing never jibed with me. Still, it’s cool that they’re doing it, and will be interesting to see how many people watched over the inter-webs. If it’ll be more or less people who watched Live 8. If it’ll be more or less than a population of a small African country. That Bono saved. Now, I just want to see Radiohead do the same thing. With backstage interviews, and Thom Yorke just staring at you. Staring at you. And you don’t know why. But deep down, you do.
