I’m a Comcast subscriber and they do block services unfairly. I’m an IT guy and often need to FTP to data at home – Comcast has made that VERY difficult. I have hosted email accounts I cannot access because Comcast thinks it’s bittorrent traffic. I pay for 3Mb down and 1Mb up – period. I agree they should have the right to throttle network hogs, but that needs to be stipulated in the contract – which was not when I signed up. FYI – Comcast has warned last year by the FCC for these practices. Oh, there are no comparable services in my area, so we are stuck with Comcast for now.

Ahh Doughboy, you have our entire staff of IT geeks rolling. Of course this will make the ISP be honest, but you don’t understand the technical aspect of what this will do. You are now in the idiot group with Mark. Please please please do some tecnical research before you try and win an argument.

JB – Bravo you don’t get it. Net Neutrality forces company to be honest about what they are selling. I bought an unlimited internet plan. It’s not my fault my ISP oversold the network. Now we will have concrete rules that tell ISPs you have to be honest and upfront about what you sell. And on top of that they won’t be able to look at packets anymore and discriminate.

You remind me of the person complaining that his IPhone unlimited data plan won’t be unlimited anymore. The problem is their already is a 5GP CAP!

You are a true genius Mark. Do you have any idea what this means in reality? First of all, Comast didn’t block access to websites. Comcast blocked the use of bittorrent, a peer to peer application used to share media. The application uses large amounts of bandwidth which in turn limits the other customer’s ability to access websites. The worst part is that most media shared using torrents are pirated. So the FCC is essentially forcing companies to allow users to use their networks for swapping pirated media while the rest of us sit and wait for our websites to open because the bandwidth is used by “legal” applications. Bravo, Bravo! Do you do any research Mark? It seems like you put alot of effort into talking crap about those Beck and McCain people, but you couldn’t be a true journalist and find out why these people would be mad. The common user won’t find out until it’s too late, but it appears you forgot to ask the people who manage these networks what will happen. Do you know anything about networking or just that it “makes my internet work”? Idiots!
