It’s things
like this that make me wonder how long colleges will remain in business, because the instant anyone runs across a question they can’t answer, they run to Google and do a search. Why bother actually learning anything when the answer is on the Internet? On the other hand, Tony Westmoreland just won $50,000 on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” by answering the question “Where is the Hyoglossus muscle?”
Now, admittedly, he had to call a friend to do it, but the point is that someone knew the answer, lending credence to the “education is good” theory. However, if I knew that my friend was going to go on that show, I’d park myself in front of the computer, Google open, waiting for his call. So maybe the guy didn’t know the answer. At the same time, this is clearly an unfair question to ask of anyone but a medical professional, and specifically an Ear, Nose and Throat expert at that (the hyoglossus muscle is in the throat).
So the take-away from this is: Education is dead, “Millionaire” is scraping the bottom of the barrel with its ridiculously unanswerable questions, and the hyoglossus is the greatest muscle known to women because it controls the tongue’s ability to extend and retract. The Internet: it knows things so you don’t have to.
