There is a book coming out detailing the behind-the-scenes struggles of one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. And it sounds like it’s going to be all kinds of kick-ass.
The Unauthorized Simpsons Biography is written by John Ortved. Apparently, the revelations that are coming out are detrimental to the staff that’s been writing there since day one. Namely, that Matt Groening is exactly like George Lucas and doesn’t understand the integrity of his own characters. Which is why producer/writer Sam Simon left after only four seasons.
“Once while discussing a script where Marge finally lets her hair down, Matt really wanted to reveal that underneath her beehive, Marge had Rabbit ears.”
Rabbit ears. In addition:
“One witness to the early days was particularly annoyed that Groening took so much credit for the show’s success, when “the fat fuck just sat up in his office all day, figuring out ways to make more money [with merchandising]” while Sam Simon and the writers churned out brilliant script after brilliant script.” What?
More and more, I’m thinking, the key to success is to think of an idea, have other people slave over it, then sit back and reap the profits.

problem is, writers are the idea men. the real trick is to take credit for the work of others. that's how you get big paychecks
