So, okay, I’m a dog, I’ll admit it. You who follow me on Twitter know this. So when I heard about Whitney Houston’s recent “wardrobe malfunction” on the British music reality series “The X Factor“, I clicked that link expecting some cheap thrills. A little Whitney Boobston, if you will. Watching the video, my reactions were mixed.
First, she looks good. Considering her age and the stresses she’s gone through, she’s held together pretty well. Second, the song was instantly forgettable. I was barely holding on to the melody even as it was being sung. Third, why was she so out of breath? Fourth, hey look, her dress is falling apart! Fifth, why did they make her wear something that is clearly ill-fitting, to the point where her continual clutching of the lower part of the dress proved to be really distracting? And sixth, that’s it? That was the malfunction? There was no skin at all!
Whitney herself quipped after the performance “I sang myself out of my clothes”, which was not at all the case. Is it cynical of me to wonder: was her dress supposed to fall apart? Bear with my reasoning here. Whitney is trying to make a comeback. She needs all the help she can get. A sure way to notoriety is to be the subject of a viral video. A great subject for one of those is a nip slip. Now do the math. Maybe Whitney was looking down at her dress going “C’mon, drop already!” Did anyone else get that vibe, or was it just me being hopeful?

it had two straps on both of her shoulders, and she wasn't doing much more then standing in place -- really doubt she was trying to let more 'slip' than did (read: nothing). kinda surprised it even became a story tbh, didn't realize a broken strap was worth national attention. then again, we're living in a post-balloon-boy world
