whipzombiesAwwwww, YEAH, What up, kid? Welcome to the deliciousness that is your Weekend Movie Alert. This time around, we’re looking at “Whip It” and “Zombieland”. We bring it REAL, knowhadamsayin? Let’s drop it like it’s on FIYAH!

First up, Ellen Page does her cute-girl-next-door-with-an-attitude thing in the roller derby feel-good hit of the year “Whip It”. This is a look at small town life, where conservatism is the norm and girls simply do not go wild. Ellen is one such girl, a misfit in her own family; for cryin’ out loud, Marcia Gay Harden plays her mom. That should tell you all you need to know about Ellen’s family. Small wonder, then, that she is galvanized by the appearance of an all-girl roller derby team, who shows her the path to claiming her own power. This is Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, and it looks like good clean fun. Check out the trailer below:

Next up, “Zombieland”, featuring Michael Cera Jessie Eisenberg (they’re two different people? really?) and Woody Harrelson. Woody’s the kinda guy you’d expect to find in something like this, an off-beat horror/comedy about the eventual zombie apocalypse we all know is coming. Woody just doesn’t care. Just give him his lines and let him go. Eisenberg will probably be a good foil for Woody’s antics, but really, the reason to see “Zombieland” is for all the gory, shambling mayhem. Check out the red band trailer below!
