Rio De Janiero will be the host city of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Beating out Madrid and Chicago, Rio has made history by becoming the first city in South America to host the Olympic Games. Celebrations are taking place all over Rio as they celebrate this national triumph.
Chicago residents were devastated after finding out they wouldn’t be the host. Most of the locals were looking forward to showcasing this worldwide event in their city and hopeful at their chances. “I was looking forward to having the world come and see just how great Chicago is,” said one local.
As for Rio, music is playing in the streets and people from all over the city singing and dancing in celebration. Brazilian leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was one of the key figures in bringing the Olympic games to Rio and probably the main reason they won the bid.
