The first and pioneering rap DJ Mr. Magic passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Magic, who’s real name is John Rivas, was known for his legendary radio show “Rap Attack” featuring fellow pioneer Marley Marl. His influence in the rap game was serious and often referenced by other legendary rappers including The Notorious B.I.G.
The announcement of his death was released DJ Premier, a close friend and a pioneering DJ in his own right. Other rappers are reverting to Twitter to show their feelings on Magic’s passing. Q-Tip had this to say “R.I.P. to the man who put hiphop radio on the map…. the one the only… MR. MAGIC!!! TOO MUCH YALL
