David Letterman preempted media conjecture over his workplace affair extortion case by coming out with the whole story last night on “The Late Show”. Letterman revealed to a confused live audience that “the creepy stuff was that I have had sex with women who work for me on this show.”
Dave told his late night audience that he received a package three weeks ago containing a threat that his workplace indiscretions with femal staffers would be revealed if he didn’t pay the blackmailer $2 million.
“In the back seat of my car, there’s a package that I don’t recognize,” he said. The package reportedly contained a letter stating “I know that you do some terrible terrible things and I can prove that you do these terrible things … and sure enough what was contained in the package was proof that I do terrible, terrible things.”
Letterman went on to add, “What this is, is a guy is going to write a screenplay about me and he’s going to take all the terrible stuff that he knows about my life and he’s going to put it into a movie unless I give him some money.”
Rather than give the extortionist the money, Dave set up a sting with his attorney and the Manhattan DA’s office and slipped the crook a fake check for $2 million, which sealed the deal and landed a 20-year CBS veteran and “48 Hours” show producer in the clink.
Oh, Dave. You should know by now; you can love your staffers, but don’t love your staffers
