Coffee-1
Today is a holiday I was blissfully unaware of. It’s National Coffee Day, where people are encouraged to celebrate and drink coffee, even though people everywhere drink and celebrate coffee everyday.

Starbucks is handing out thousands of free samples of it’s VIA instant coffee. Filterfresh coffee service is running a creative writing contest where you can submit an essay detailing why coffee is the greatest beverage invented, but what’s the point of this holiday? Everybody who already loves coffee drinks it. Consistently. Like, a lot. My friends are all practically running on coffee. Where’s the day where you celebrate the sun still burning, or how friendship is awesome? I mean, come on, it’s a novel idea, but we could schedule it on the same day as another holiday. Like Talk Like a Pirate day. That happened recently, right? Wouldn’t it be better to have a crazed-caffeinated middle class running around, babbling like pirates? That’d make me participate.

Come to think of it, we should just start combining the more arbitrary holidays. Think of International Chocolate Day mixed with Bad Poetry Day. Sweetest Day mixed with Save the Rhinos Day. And yes, there’s actually a save the Rhinos day. Although I’ve never celebrated.
