Pandorum_surrogatesYes, my pretties … come to me! Listen to the terrifying tale I have to tell! A tale of two movies opening this weekend … this just got less scary. But hey! That’s why we’re looking at “Pandorum” and “Surrogates” — to try to drum up some of that ol’ suspense.

First up, “Pandorum”. Not only does the movie’s name not give you any worthwhile information, the trailer itself is so vague as to be either really unsettling or completely ridiculous; your mileage may vary. But it does feature Dennis Quaid, who can usually pull off an enjoyable turn or two, and the underrated Ben Foster, who you may remember as the coked-up dude from “Alpha Dog”, or the goofy piercings guy from “The Punisher”, or the creepy dude from “Six Feet Under”. So there’s a good chance he’ll do some kinda weird acting bit in this flick that causes you to question either his ability or his sanity, and I can’t make a good case for either, so … check out the trailer below:

Next up, “Surrogates”, featuring the beloved Bruce Willis. Bruce is one of those actors who people have fond memories of from earlier films, so they give him a lot of passes when he does fish-out-of-water roles like this one. “He’s not really good in this role … but hey, it’s Bruce! Aww, lookit him acting. We love Bruce!” The story itself, at least from the trailer, reads like this generation’s attempt at “Blade Runner”, with its crazy androids running around, Bruce in the Harrison Ford role … but you know what? It looks kinda cool. I’ll probably see it. Check out the trailer below:

I would suggest Pandorum over Surrogates. I found Pandorum to be a lot more enjoyable, despite having no interest going into it. I was excited to see how Surrogates turned out, but it was a lot less gripping in its narrative. While it wasn't bad, Pandorum was more gratifying to me.

Oh, and the Pandorum posters have absolutely nothing to do with the movie, which is upsetting.
