10 Amazing Translation Parties

By Paul Jury on September 25th, 2009

My brother Alex recently introduced me to my new favorite site in the world. Translation party takes an English phrase you enter, uses Google to translate it into Japanese, then translates it back into English, which usually results in a slightly different phrase than your original entry, because of the nature of translation. Then it keeps translating, back and forth, until your phrase attains “equilibrium” – that is, it stops changing. The results are generally, well, fantastic.

1) Blood from a turnip –> Infant sacrifice

Engrish.com, you have a new challenger.

Here are 10 of the greatest ones Alex and I found after literally hours of doing this (when we were supposed to be working, of course).

2) Sir Mix-a-Lot –> Snake vacation

3) 80’s ad –> Life philosophy

4) Forrest Gump –> WTF?

5) Gin & Juice –> Home interrogation

6) R. Kelly sees no problems

7) Socrates –> A bunch of five-year-old boys

8) Star Wars – Fall vacation advocating Day Power!

9) This one might actually be the correct translation

10) Simpsons Movie –> Gibberish plea!
