Location based iPhone apps are the latest buzz in the iTunes apposhere. Gowalla, although relatively new, is quickly becoming one of the hottest. Rewarding those you particpate with cool badges and titles, Gowalla’s aim is to make normal everyday errands and explorations fun.
For many of you iPhone game fans, you are probably more familiar with Foursquare. Similar to Gowalla, Foursquare is another location based app that gives you badges and mayorships at various locations around the country. It has shown huge growth as of late and continues to develop cool new features.
Initially Gowalla was only available in San Francisco and Austin, but has now expanded worldwide. It will be interesting to see if more countries embrace this game and really utilize their features. As far as their battle with Foursquare, they say competition breeds innovation, so I’m excited to what both companies have to offer.
