whiteout_9_posterChances are that you’re thinking about September 11th, and you need to take yourself out of your own head before you spend the weekend in a funk. That’s what movies are for, my friend. On top of that, catharsis is a great way to shake the doldrums; there’s nothing like watching people go through some trauma to make yourself feel better about yourself. To wit: we’re taking a look at two such peril-laden films: “Whiteout” and “9″.

First up, “Whiteout”, featuring Kate Beckinsale. It’s based on the four-issue limited series comic book, and Kate Beckinsale’s in it. It’s got a lot of ice and snow, and Kate Beckinsale. Some people die in mysterious ways, and Kate Beckinsale does a good American accent. Blizzards, gunplay, frostbitten fingers, and Kate Beckinsale is pretty. Check out the trailer below, ’cause, y’know … Kate Beckinsale.

Next up is “9″, co-produced by the King of Goofygoth, Tim Burton, and the Mad Russian of Crazygonuts Filmmaking, Timur Bekmambetov (”Wanted”, “Night Watch”). Featuring the voices of Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau, certainly not your usual voiceover suspects, this is a CGI tale that looks and feels like the anti-Dreamworks feel-weird movie of the year. After self-willed machines destroy humanity, a group of nine burlap dolls sets out to overthrow the heavy metal regime. Do you really need any more prodding to go see this? Fine. Check out the trailer below:

i wonder if we'll ever stop making movies about robots taking over the earth. seems like we have some sort of complex about it.
