Holy cats, look at that, it’s time once again for Weekend Movie Alert, where we Alert you about the Movies opening this Weekend. Don’t know why I even spent the time to spell that out, really. But hey, this time we’re looking at “Extract” and “Gamer”.
“Extract” is Mike Judge’s newest joint; his previous films being the amazing “Office Space” and “Idiocracy”. And, of course, “Beavis and Butthead”, those knuckleheads. This newest flick again features a guy under a lot of stress who then gets exposed to something mood-altering, resulting in hilarity and hijinks galore. Actually, it’s really difficult to tell what the hell this movie is about. It may be the worst trailer I’ve seen in a long time, in that it doesn’t communicate any good reason to see the film other than one’s possible desire to see Ben Affleck acting (?) like an idiot. Jason Bateman’s in it, though, and that’s always a good thing, so it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth your dollar. Check out the trailer below:
Next up, “Gamer”, featuring Gerard Butler as convicted felon-turned-super soldier Kable. Apparently, this world’s main form of entertainment is watching a “Running Man”-like show called “Slayers”, in which contestants are given full control of another human being via an unknown method and forces them to compete in wargames. This Kable guy (Ha! See what I did there?) is the show’s most successful soldier, outliving his fellow inmates to become the best. Then something happens, he finds his wife who’s also possibly being controlled, the guy from “Dexter” is there doing a really weird Southern-ish accent, and all you really need to know is: Gerard Butler is friggin’ awesome. Huh, so sort of a Gladiator meets Minority Report sort of thing? Gamer, that is. Might have to check it out.
