Manolith Fall Fashion: Great Shoes Under $20

By Ned Hepburn on August 26th, 2009

Ok, brohaim. You’re probably thinking to yourself: Chukkas are the shoe of the moment right now, and the fashion world realizes this, and they’re marking up their chukkas to sometimes $300 a pair. This is wrong! Wronger than the Olsen twins at a ham convention. I can get a pair for you for $20. So you’re probably wondering: where the hell can I get a pair of these things? Simple.

The brand is Zig Zag. Yep, just like the rolling papers. The shoes are made of a light canvas and rubber soles, and rivets for the eye-holes for the laces. That’s pretty much it. And they come in at a whopping fifteen or twenty dollars. Here’s the trick, though. They’re a tiny company based out of Southern California, and available pretty much entirely at Army Surplus stores. Use the internet detective machine that is Google to find the closest one to you and ask them if they stock Zig Zag shoes. If you live in the Los Angeles area call the Army & Navy Outdoor Supply at (323) 662-2945. They’re located at 3828 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, and they’ll probably ship a pair out to you.

They come in four colors; grey, beige, blue, and black, and two styles: the high top or the low top, last you a few months, and cost less than an entree at the Outback Steakhouse. It’s a total win win situation.

Uh oh, I'm fallin' behind the times again. So Chukkas now? I can deal with that. Pretty fashionable too.
