8bitTrip_largeApparently over 1,500 hours went into producing this almost four minute video clip that has totally gone viral on YouTube over the past three days with help from Reddit, Twitter and Facebook. I happened upon it last night when my wife sent me the link and I thought, “yeah, that’s cool.”  Little did I know that over 200,000 views later it would be hitting the buzz stream.  After I got over my initial impression I calculated that 1,500 hours equals over nine months’ worth of full-time employment (40 hours a week).  Who the heck has that much free time on their hands?  The YouTube user who posted the clip hails from Sweden and is a pop music band apparently.  With that much time on their hands to create a video like this, my bet would be they are in the “starving artist” category.  Anyway, the video is cool and will definitely bring back some memories for those who have played the old Mario games on the NES.  Buckle up, strap yourself in and get prepared for some pretty mind blowing lego brick animation with sythesized pop crack (I mean, music). Take it away Mario …

it’s cool and interesting, i guess. but at 1,500 hours? jeez … maybe they could have worked toward a more interesting concept. or maybe just a better song? not sure what it was, but while it was more technically appealing, it was far from the head-rush experience of the White Stripes video

Now with almost 1.5 million views just about 36 hours after this post, it’s incredible how many people have passed on this video. I agree the song could have been better, but the animation was choreographed well to the music. I just can’t get over the 1,500 hours part … that is extreme dedication to a project.
