Facebook, the current social networking titan, acquired Friendfeed today in one of their biggest acquisitions ever. The four-year-old company wants to beef up their camp in their war against Twitter and believes Friendfeed has the capacity to help. Although Friendfeed isn’t the most sought after Web 2.0 site, they definitely have a smart platform to offer.

The financial details on the acquisition have yet to be released, but Friendfeed was originally funded for 5 million.

As Facebook, continues to grow and expand globally, it’ll be interesting to see how they integrate Friendfeed into their network. With the founders of Friendfeed taking senior roles at Facebook, we should expect to see some more intuitive developments from this young company.

I'm not too familiar with FriendFeed, so what's the deal with it? Is it supposed to be competition against Twitter or something else altogether?
