Weekend Movie Alert: “A Perfect Getaway” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”

perfect_joeAloha! You’re just in time to see what the weekend has to offer in the way of big screen entertainment. This time around, we’re looking at “A Perfect Getaway” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”.

Remember when Steve Zahn was Phoebe’s gay figure skating crush on “Friends”? With that first-time introduction to the actor, it’s a little weird to see him doing action-y kind of stuff, like his role in “Sahara” — not that anyone saw that. But I guess when you get paired up with Milla Jovovich, you kinda have to bring the heat. This doesn’t look like the average chase through the woods horror flick; it’s a little bit more like a tables-turned-on-the-bad-guys action movie. Featuring a nearly-unrecognizable Timothy Oliphant (Bullock from “Deadwood” and Agent 47 from “Hitman”), this romp was directed by David Twohy, who gave the world the excellent “Pitch Black” and the horrible “Chronicles of Riddick” and the underrated “Below”. Who knows what the quality of this one will be? Check out the trailer below:

Next up is the hotly-anticipated “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”. Now, not to get all pedantic here, but is it too much to hope that this movie will finally answer the question “If this is an organization of soldiers (plural), then why do they keep saying ‘a real American hero’ (singular)?” Is there an actual guy named Joe? Whatever; we all know the real reason, the only reason to go see this movie is SnakeEyes, with The Baroness running a close second. I’m not convinced they got the right guy for Stormshadow; and why the hell can we even see his face? I’m calling shenanigans on this, but I’m willing to give it a shot anyway. See for yourself; trailer’s below:
