Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends. Except that it does, and then they make you leave the theater and pretend to care if you have a nice day or not. But hey! You don’t need a nice day, ’cause you’ve just seen one of these two swell flicks! This time around we’re looking at “Funny People” and “The Collector”.
“Funny People” is one of those movies that will leave you in tears at some point, which these days usually means Oscar nomination. But don’t hold that against it. Adam Sandler takes another stab at a serious role with this one about a comedian who’s been dying of cancer, only to apparently have it suddenly go into remission. Along the way, he mentors up and coming comedian Seth Rogen and tries to reconcile with ex-girlfriend Leslie Mann despite the presence of her husband Eric Bana. He did a great job in “Punch-Drunk Love”, and it looks like he can pull this off too, so why not? Check out the trailer below:
Next up, “The Collector”. Right away, the unique premise makes itself known: a burglar sneaks into someone’s house to do his work, and finds that not only are the owners still at home, but they’re being brutalized by an unwanted guest. It’s not clear exactly how or why, but this unknown assailant has also managed to booby trap the house, preventing anyone from leaving. How fortunate, then, that our protagonist happens to be a master thief and lockpick? This one’s been getting kudos all over the place from horror movie afficionados and just looks like a blast. See what the fuss is about below:
