ComicCon’s Masquerade Performances — Warning: Extreme Geekery Ahead

jupesEveryone should go to ComicCon at least once in their lives. I’ve been there a total of three times, and it’s only gotten bigger and crazier since I’ve been. And it was plenty crazy the year I worked it as security, let me tell you. There’s nothing like walking amongst a horde of nerds, geeks, and dorks (and I’ll leave it to you to determine which of those terms is pejorative) dressed up as every superhero, supervillain, and character from movies and tv shows to make one feel really, really … good about one’s self.

Hey, don’t get me wrong: I spent my first few years in California dressing up for RenFaire, LARPing, and being generally geeky myself. But at some point I lost the fire. It might have been when I tried to actually use the Force on someone and he took me to the ground for some attitude adjustment. Nothing like a contusion to make you rethink your life.

However, in the spirit of the thing, we invite you to check out this collection of performances from the annual Masquerade, in which the best costumes are judged by professional designers and prop makers. But be forewarned: the video quality isn’t the best, but neither are many of the performances. Also, it would have been good to see longer clips of each performance, even if the bad ones are mercifully short. We’ve embedded the video below for your viewing pleasure:
