There’s many things you could say about Sarah Palin. Many questions too – Why? How? What the hell America? – but the one thing none of us could ever deny, is that she certainly had her way with words. Ah yes, few things lightened up the campaign trail like Sarah Palin’s rambling screeds to Joe the Plumber, “real” Americans and snowmachines. All the time, we were thinking, poor Sarah Palin, she’s just not ready for the big-time. But, alas, she had us all fooled. Rather, it was us who were not ready for Sarah Palin and her avant-garde and surrealistic, um, poems.
That’s right, Sarah Palin wasn’t much as a politician – to say the least – but it turns out she’s quite the poet! And she didn’t even know it! As it turns out, man of many talents, Conan O’Brien, knows how to spot a good poem when he hears one. And her farewell speech last Sunday – in which she decided to step down, mid-term, as Alaska’s Governor, for no discernible reason at all – was such a time.
Tracking down the only man truly suitable for the job, Conan enlisted the William Shatner to do a live reading of her speech on the show. And is it impressive! Really, though, watch it for yourself. And learn the myriad meanings of, “That big wild life / Teaming along the road / That is North / To the future.”
