Hello, friends, and welcome to another Weekend Movie Alert. Man, it seems like just last week we had one of these, but that’s probably just the booze talking. Anyway, let’s take a look at the latest Harry Potter flick, and something by the terribly underrated Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Full disclosure here, folks: I’ve not read any of the Harry Potter books, nor seen any of the movies. So it’s kind of weird for me to watch these kids grow older through the miracle of movie trailers. Why haven’t I jumped aboard the Hogwarts train? Call it the “Pulp Fiction” Effect. So many people kept getting in my face with “Harry Potter’s AMAZING!” that it pushed me away from wanting to read it. I felt like the choice was taken out of my hands. And now, the trailer for the latest one has me really interested in it, as it looks pretty cool. But I know that I have, what, fifteen other movies to watch first? I may never get around to it. Next up, “(500) Days of Summer”, featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. Man, JGL’s come a long way since “Third Rock From the Sun”, hasn’t he? He’s got some great acting chops, and picks his roles really well. Zooey Deschanel I’m not as fond of, but for this movie it looks like they wrote the part around her. I have no problem believing her as the non-romantic, I-don’t-believe-in-love casual girl, playing opposite JGL’s smitten kitten. How will it all go down in the end?
