Nick Vujicic regularly surfs in Hawaii without either arms or feet. He was taught by Bethany Hamilton, who had her arm bitten off by a shark when she was a teenager. Not a quitter, though, she was back on a surfboard within three weeks.
Nick, who is now twenty-six, was born with a condition known as Phocomelia. He is left with only a small foot that he calls “chicken drumstick”, but he doesn’t let it slow him down at all! He swims, surfs, plays football and golf and even types and writes – which is honestly more than I can vouch for… How you ask? His small foot works super efficiently in the water, almost like a propeller. To get around on dry land he uses an electric wheelchair and has a small team of caretakers to help him during travels.
Nick has currently visited over twenty-four countries and makes no plans for stopping anytime soon. His next destinations? The Middle East and South America!
