According to several reports, controversial but talented street artist and photographer Dash Snow died last night from a drug overdose. First reported by Gawker, and then a slew of Twitter messages left by his friends, it appears Snow had overdosed on heroin. He was twenty-seven at the time of his death.
Finding recent success in the downtown NYC art scene, Snow had made a name for himself with his photography (typically graphic shots of nude hipsters doing drugs and having sex), his graffiti and his involvement with the Irak Crew, as well as controversial art pieces involving his own ejaculate – including one recent piece that featured a collage of tabloid cut-outs of police corruption, put together with a healthy dose of Snow’s own semen. The piece was titled, “Fuck the Police”.
A troublemaker from the very start, Snow had spent his childhood away from home and in and out of Juvenile Detention, shoplifting and tagging up buildings with his friends whenever he could. He was also one for a good party. And drugs. Lots and lots of drugs. Unfortunately, this live-fast, die-hard lifestyle has finally caught up to him.
Coming from a well-to-do family, his grandmother was Dominique de Menil, a well known art collector who had inherited the Schlumberger oil fortune, his aunt is actress Uma Thurman and his brother, Maxwell Snow, is known for having dated Mary-Kate Olsen.
Here’s a recent piece he did for the Brooklyn Museum.

How sad. But really, it’s just an unsustainable lifestyle. I know too many friends who are now caught up in hard drugs and all-night partying, and you just have to imagine it will eventually catch up with them.
R.I.P. dude.
no..’fuck you’ with my middle finger.. im still alive, your not douche,
this is so sad a worthless piece of malicious trash now departed..
someone spooge on his grave for old time sake
(BTW, WHO EVER HEARD OF THIS LOSER BEFORE- IVE HEARD OF FAMOUS PEOPLE DYING, BUT NOT BECOMING FAMOUS for DYING)
Very sad. Depressing in every way right down to the baby left fatherless. There are things money can’t fix. Dash Snow sported an annoying hipper-than-thou art-world persona, but his artistic talent was undeniable.Unfortunately, he was not only a brilliant artist but a drug addict as well. My condolences to his family, friends and Secret. No hope in dope.
