Will We See Fedor Vs. Lesnar?

fedorI like how today’s going so far. Swearing led to Dana White, which leads to Fedor Emilianenko. The UFC’s president has made no bones about wanting Fedor to compete in the UFC. It’s an old story by now, with both sides blaming the other for the failure to negotiate a contract. But during the post-fight conference after the recent UFC 100 event, White once again fielded the eternal question.

“Eventually, Fedor’s going to be here. I want Fedor. I want him to come to the UFC and everything else.” Given the seemingly unstoppable Brock Lesnar, it just makes sense for the two to meet up eventually. If the issue is money, I have no doubt that something can be arranged, even if it means inventing a special category for Fedor, like “Guest Champion Contender” or “Greatest Russian Fighter Of All Time” — whatever it takes, get Fedor in there!

Look, MMA as a sport isn’t so old that it can’t still evolve. White’s the friggin’ president of the UFC; if he doesn’t make the rules, who does? And Fedor, come on. You are a fighter. It’s what you do; it’s ALL you do. Ask whatever price you want — it’ll be met. If this fight happens everyone involved will make a mint. You can only play coy for so long, and let’s face it: you’re running out of opponents, just like Lesnar is. I’m with White on this: this is going to happen. It makes too much sense not to.

I thought the major point of contention had always been that Fedor wanted to be able to compete in the national Sambo competition in Russia every year and UFC wouldn't let him do so, not that UFC wasn't offering enough money.

I believe that Dana may want to bring Fedor in for one very good reason. Dana doesn't want Shane Carwin to walk in and destroy the myth of Lesnar in just a few seconds. Nobody really even knows Shane and it will make the UFC look like they were hyping a can instead of a legitimate fighter like Carwin. Its all about the ratings. Lesnar versus Fedor can sell more tickets. Yes, Fedor would win but the draw would be bigger. I would even assume the betting companies would favor Carwin against Lesnar because after all they usually are right.
