I hate hipsters and fixie riders mostly because they take these beautiful handmade Italian bicycles and fuck them up. These bicycles were born to have fine Campagnolo groupos hanging off them. They often had beautiful paint jobs with chrome. These fixie asshole cover them in electric tape. Strip them off the groupo install those cheap gay wheelsets on them. These dicks don’t know the value of these bicycles. Thank you

I work in a cafe, have a similar style of bike and yes they are seen quite highly by all the ‘hipster I know’. But why does anyone give a shit or define this as a fad? They all began as track bikes used in velodromes and if you’ve the balls to ride one on the streets then kudos to you and your supposedly hipster friends.

fixies are a huge fad right now, but a lot of people enjoy building bikes let alone a custom fixie. Generalizing on this topic is ignorant, im mexican, definitely not a hipster, and i ride a fixie around my town.

lol im working on building a fixed gear from the frame up right now! its been fun because being a bike newb its forced me to really research each component and figure out what each does, basically building a fixed gear bike has taught me a ton about bicycle mechanics.

im not going to deny there are aesthetics to fixies…and ill admit im intrigued by it and enjoy the process of designing my bike, figuring out how i want it to look, etc…

but it definitely isn’t the main or only reason. actually ive been getting into cycling more and more as exercise, especially developing leg strength as physical therapy for a soccer injury. riding a fixed gear requires more leg strength because you are constantly peddling without stop, and you must tuff out hills both down and up instead of relying on gears. plus riding a fixed teaches you proper peddling technique.

anywho just my two cents.

i can understand some anti-fixie sentiments though with the hipster stigma attached to it. i myself cant help but roll my eyes when i see a ridiculously over the top purple/pink/yellow neon whatever fixie some hipster built. but hey to each their own i guess. as long as you are out there in the fresh air having fun riding a bike and living life then fu@k what others think!

i feel bad for the person who wrote this, hes probably some 40 year old trying to diss and stereo type a way of living for some people. im sorry i dont live in a hilly area like you probably do, so i wouldnt need to ride a road bike. im sorry i cant afford a $2500 road bike like you probably have. point of the matter is, ive always loved bike riding. im 18 and ride mine everywhere in Chicago. because we ride in groups it makes us seem like we want to look cool? no, it makes it more fun. please dont waste your time creating blog about how much you hate fixies. its fun and i love it!

I love cycling.
I cycle over 200 miles per week on my GEARED bikes.
I love my fixed gear bike.
I ride it when going to see friends etc.
I drive my car if I can’t be assed to cycle.
Wow I have a car?
My fixed gear cost me less than £150 to source.
My geared bikes total just over £5k.

I wear skinny jeans because I honestly look better in them than in baggy, torn up jeans with half-shown boxer. I ride fixed because it is just fun. I enjoy it more than driving my civic. Its like riding an untamed horse and I get excitement out of it. A slight movement in your legs can alter the speed of the bike and when you master it, it feels great. I dont ride my fixed to show off, I ride it to have fun. And you who generalize all fixie rider as hipster would hate me for having a simple joy on my bike? Im not allowed to have fun with fixed gear, is that what you are telling me? You sir, are a hater.

Ok so in your article you are bad mothing anyone who rides a fixie for the most part except for bike messengers. Well i have news for you I am a bicycle enthusiast and i belong to a Mountain bike club, a road bike club, and Th e lEague of American Bicyclists. I ride bikes and all kinds and I just have a general love for bikes that is why i have 18 and counting and tons of money dumped into the things I love most. I put over $1100 into a 1982 Schwinn world to rebuilt it just the way I wanted it. I also just built a Fixie and I am going to ride it as well as my others. Now the reason i built a fixie is because 1) I don’t have one and 2) I respect bicycle messengers and I wanted to see what it is like to ride a fixe every day. You sir are a bias person who thinks that all peole are the same when clearly they are not, and I sincerly believe that you grow up an find a new opinion and vocie it to a crowd who cares. Aslo i feel very offended with the article of yours and you should be ashamed of yours because your are the child. Thank you for your time.
