Welcome one and all to the Weekend Movie Alert! This time around we’ll take a look at the highly-anticipated “Bruno” and “Blood: The Last Vampire”.
I happen to be one of those poor unfortunate souls who still hasn’t seen the entirety of “Borat“, but enough clips of that worthy movie have been sent to me that I feel I’ve viewed the best bits. It’s entirely likely that the same will happen with “Bruno”; I want to see it, but can only make so much time to see new flicks in the theaters, so I’ll probably just wait to catch it on DVD or on Netflix Streaming.
That’s too bad for me, ’cause when I’d first heard that Cohen was making this movie, it seemed unlikely that he’d be able to top the outrageous “Borat”, and perhaps his Bruno character might not be as well known. But after watching the trailer (embedded below), I can honestly say that if anything can best Borat at his own game, it would have to be this flick.

Next up: “Blood: The Last Vampire”. This live-action movie is based on a popular Japanese anime released in 2000. Featuring a half-vampire, half-human protagonist named Saya, the anime introduced a breed of creatures called “chiropterans” that fed on human blood, and the agency called “Red Shield” that hunted them.
It’s not clear whether any of this will be in the new movie, and the trailer certainly doesn’t give any of it away. But if you like the kind of nutty wire-work martial arts action seen heavily in movies like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Hero” (whose producer is behind this one), you might want to give this one a go. Besides, cute Japanese girl in a schoolgirl outfit with katanas slicing up vampires? Who doesn’t love that? Check out the trailer below:
