Weekend Movie Alert: “Transformers 2″ and “The Hurt Locker”

newposterstransWelcome, one and all, to the Weekend Movie Alert, the blog post that’s sorry it cheated on you with that Argentinian girl. This time around, we’re looking at “Transformers 2: Rise of the Fallen”, and “The Hurt Locker”.

First up, Shia LeBoeuf, owner of the least-pronounced-correctly-the-first-time-you-see-it name, does more bonding with a bright yellow car, runs a lot, and screams a bunch. For my money, it just doesn’t get any better than that. Unless, of course, you count the New Angelina Jolie Role Takeover Hottie Megan Fox, whose main role in this movie is to help the audience be okay with the hyperbolic, physics-defying crazy robot-on-robot action. In other words: best movie of the year. Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer below:

Next up, Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker”, about an elite bomb squad doing their dangerous work. The action focuses on two soldiers and their working relationship, defusing IEDs in the middle of war-torn Baghdad. Into their lives comes a new team leader, a man whose casual, maverick style on the job makes the men uneasy at first, then outright afraid for their safety. With mere days before their tour of duty is over, they must make the choice to continue to follow this new leader into increasingly dangerous territory, or figure out a way to save their own lives.

Kathryn Bigelow, director of “Near Dark”, “Point Break”, and “Strange Days” has been receiving accolades among film critics for this tense, ripped-from-the-headlines thriller. Check out the trailer below:
