According to reports from a New Zealand newspaper – and lots of action on Twitter – actor Jeff Goldblum died early this morning after a fatal fall. The alleged death occurred while on set in New Zealand when Goldblum fell over sixty feet off a nearby cliff. As of yet no other news source has picked up the story, so it’s probably false. That said, he is currently filming a movie titled, “Morning Glory“, but no word on where it’s filming.
If true, it would mark the third major death of the day. With Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett being the other two. Let’s hope it’s a fake. Not sure I can take another death.
Jeff Goldblum was best known for his role on Jurassic Park as the mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm, but was also featured in films such as Igby Goes Down, Independence Day and Annie Hall.
Update: This report has turned out to be false, an old Internet hoax that resurfaced among the Michael Jackson frenzy. More on the official NZ Police website.

An online hoax from 1999, which claims actor Jeff Goldblum has died in New Zealand, has returned.
New Zealand police have been taking calls, as have local media outlets, after the online hoax went viral again today.
The hoax – which first appeared in 1999 – involves international reports saying the actor has died, usually in a fall, while filming in New Zealand. The reports normally claim to have New Zealand Police confirmation.
Police said about midday today that they had no reports of the actor dying in New Zealand, and had not released any statements of that nature. They confirmed the hoax re-appeared every so often and that they had been taking inquiries from media this morning.
Goldblum roles include Jurassic Park and the television series Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
