A group of five tourists arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport from France received the ride of their lives recently. Mistaking a nearby van for a taxi, the tourists were led aboard by the suspects, presumably prior to being kidnapped. Fortunately, nearby police officers noticed the activity and moved in to intercept the van.
While reaching through the driver’s side window for the keys, however, the van took off, starting a seven mile police chase that finally ended when the van crashed into a postal truck in East New York, after sustaining damage from several smaller collisions along the way. The suspects were apprehended at gunpoint, and the passengers were safely retrieved, only one of them having taken an injury to the arm.
I’ve never been to New York, but when and if I do finally go, I hope I get taken on a wild car chase just like this one. This is what New York is all about! Seeing The Big Apple through the lens of the media for my entire life has primed me for some awesome cross-town antics, and I’ll be bitterly disappointed if something crazygonuts doesn’t happen. I guarantee you, these five tourists will enjoy retelling this story for decades to come. This will definitely drive up (no pun intended) tourism from France. And hey, am I the only one who made the French Connection … connection?
