In a landmark case against smoking, President Obama signed a bill today calling for larger warning stickers on tobacco products and the prohibiting of marketing campaigns towards children. In a statement regarding the bill, President Obama said, “Today … the decades-long effort to protect our children from the harmful effects of tobacco has emerged victorious. Today change has come to Washington,”

Once a chain smoker himself, the President knows firsthand the power of nicotine and doesn’t let it impair his judgment, “I know how difficult it can be to break this habit.”

Obama, who picked up smoking at a young age, eventually quit during the trying months of his campaign and has been smokeless ever since.

It's no health care bill, but great to see all the same. Especially as so many bills have died in the past years after the large fundraising arms of Big Tobacco have hired hordes of lobbyists to storm Washington. A good day.
