Edward Cullen No Match For Taxicab

There are few enough opportunities for a lowly blogger such as myself to feel a sense of superiority over anyone, much less someone else in the reporting industry. However, this story provided the perfect chance for me to call someone out for something that should be inexcusable in this day and age.

First, the story: Robert Pattinson, the actor who plays Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” movie franchise, was struck by a taxi as he attempted to escape a mob of rabid fans. Pattinson was in New York to film “Remember Me”, a romantic drama also featuring Emilie de Ravin, who most of you will know better as Claire from “Lost”. Pattinson walked away from the impact unhurt; the cab driver was heard to mutter “I was blinded by his sparkliness.” I may have made up that last part.

But here’s the best part, and please indulge my gloating: the referring article contains no less than two obvious typos, of the sort that a spellcatcher won’t catch, because they’re homonyms of the correct words the author should have used. Oh, I’m sorry: authors — two people worked on that one.

Now, Manolith is picking up speed all the time, gaining new readers and making its mark across the Internet. But it’s not a stretch to say that it doesn’t have the cachet of People magazine — yet. Given how huge People is, it must have an editorial staff, don’t you think? Even better, shouldn’t authors be able to recognize the difference between two words that sound the same, yet bear different meanings? Hey, I mock because I care. We should all learn from each other. Given how important literacy is to the very makeup of the Internet, I’m going to point out silly errors like this one every chance I get. It’s been done to me, and I learn from my mistakes.
