Those of you who like professional wrestling, but don’t think it’s nearly brutal or bloody enough, will be interested in Combat Zone Wrestling. This is an event that takes place in Delaware, which apparently has relaxed rules concerning hardcore bloodletting and use of glass fixtures in impromptu surgery.
The author of the referring article only once refers to the fact that it is, like televised professional wrestling show WWE, a scripted and rehearsed event, but for all intents and purposes, it’s about as real as it gets without actual murder. The idea behind these matches is to show the audience actual blood, so the use of barbed wire, naked glass, and other cutting instruments is not only encouraged, but mandated. Hell, they even let the audience members bring their own homemade weapons for the combatants to use on each other.
Honestly, given the bloodlust of any crowd eager to see this kind of thing, I’m surprised as Hell that more outright brawls don’t occur among the faithful. Given the description of the crowd, I’m amazed at their restraint. But if watching a guy take a cinderblock to the head prior to having a pane of glass shoved into his back via an elbow drop appeals to you, you can order taped matches online.
Last thing to take away from this story? Delaware: future home of the Thunderdome.
