the-a-team-photoOh man, I don’t know, I don’t know. My anger at Hollywood for their continued mining of my childhood for the next big franchise continues unabated, but when I heard that “The A Team” was under the microscope, I actually paused to think about it for a bit.

It’s time to face facts: “The A Team” was a stupid show. It was the same hackneyed plot every week, which, really, was nothing more than an excuse for the characters to do their idiosyncratic bits: Hannibal chomps on a cigar and says “I love it when a plan comes together”; Face does his ridiculous, see-through disguises and is a ladies’ man; B.A. reiterates the ghetto black man stereotype by being gruff and tough; and Murdock says goofy things and obsesses over trashbags. It was stupid from the first episode all the way to the final episode. So, there’s really nothing to lose by Hollywood doing a remake.

Is there still something to get angry about here? I guess some ire could be directed at Liam Neeson taking the Hannibal role, but hey, Neeson did “Darkman“. Nothing can replace the hilarity generated by his rendition of the phrase “You gotta be shittin’ me!” Also, Joe Carnahan is directing this, and he did “Narc” and “Smokin’ Aces”. So at the very least, there will be gunplay and explosions. So, yay, I guess. Is anyone excited to see “The A Team” on the big screen? Time will tell.
