So, it’s looking more and more like Joe Biden, nice as he may be, might be the price we pay for having Obama as president. The guy just can’t stop saying dumb things. And now, the latest and most egregious: he may have spilled the secret location of a highest-security bunker meant to preserve the vice president’s life.
At a recent Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, D.C., Biden related a story about being given a tour of the vice presidential home, in the old U.S. Naval Observatory. He was shown a secret hideaway, and told by the naval officer giving the tour that Dick Cheney was ensconced there following the 9/11 event.
Now, I have no problem believing that this might be true; you have to stash the VP somewhere. But there’s also a lot to consider. First, while I’m all for the idea of hiding something in plain sight, does it really make sense to secret the man in a location directly below where he normally sleeps?
Also, knowing the veep’s proclivity for making terrible gaffes, do you think the administration would really trust him not to blab about sensitive matters like this? It could very well be that what he was shown was just a ruse for his benefit, and that the real bunker is in a truly secure location.
Or, finally, and best of all, the whole thing could be a red herring to throw the press off. Disinformation is a great way to keep secrets. But then the real question becomes: is Biden in on it or not?
