It’s a toss up for me on worse mens’ clothing style, I’m thinking the days when ‘Skidz’ pants were big (skater pants if you don’t know) they were plaid colors when wearing these most normall wore a plaid shirt ofwhich didn’t match, ‘tight-rolling’ your jeans has to be up at the top of my list. No, I’ve never worn the hypercolor shirts, frankly don’t know that I’ve seen them, but ‘hypercolor’ underwear might be the way to go.

Cargo Shorts;

Being in college, cargo shorts seem to be the go-to fashion piece men aged 18-22 go to, and it is just horrifying. I understand the need for less clothing during the summer, but do you really need to wear shorts that look like you could hold your entire action figure collection at your sides?

I thought Uggs were bad on women, but recently I’ve begun to see guys sporting them. Yeah. Those suede boots. With the fur. How low can a guy stoop? I’ve even seen a few guys around here wear them with denim shorts (which by themselves are hideous enough), and this is during the summer, in an area where it’s hot and humid everyday. Go figure.

I think the worst male fashion statement ever is the thong speedo. I was lying on the beach, reading, and I heard this loud thumping noise. I look up, and there is a large man, jogging on the beach, wearing nothing but a red, string thong speedo. I seriously couldn’t believe me eyes. Its not as if the speedo was helping out with gravity issues, either. That is definitely the worst thing a man can wear in public.

The worst trend by far was the brief window in time when it was acceptable for men to wear capri pants. I can’t remember the exact date, as I seem to have repressed most of the memories, so it could have been anytime from 1995 to 2006.

As I live NJ, this trend is particularly painful for me, as it has recently been revived by our “tannest” residents, who have combined white capri pants with blowout hair cuts, black wife beaters, and shaved caves to create the perfect storm of d-bagness.

I would rather not have legs then be forced to wear capri pants.

I have seen this trend numerous times and question the wearer’s intent: guys who sport a decent blazer, button-up shirt paired with ill-fitting jeans and sneakers (dirty most of the time, but sneakers none the less). Usually the men wearing this ensemble think they are “dressed up” for an event such as a performance, a nice dinner, or going to a party. Sorry, it’s not that versatile. The blazer and shirt work fine, but it’s the bottom half I lift my nose in recoil: the jeans range from casual fit to carpenter and fit poorly on their frame, making them loose and not creating some shape. The jeans by themselves are a problem.

Then the shoes. I can stretch my disbelief to those who wear tennis shoes to work and then change when they get to the office, but sometimes I question even that. If I see a woman in a typical business jacket and skirt with sneakers I figure she’s just saving her feet. The same goes for men in full suits. It’s a must to own at least two pairs of dress shoes.

I just find it odd that they wouldn’t go the extra mile by throwing on some slacks and any other pair of shoes besides their runners. Or keep it within the jeans/sneakers family and just wear a sweater on top instead. But this random pairing of staple pieces in a wardrobe just baffles me… blazer + button-up shirt + jeans + sneakers = winning outfit? I think not.

When my dad hit mid-life he bought a motorcycle and started wearing chaps. While not officially a trend (thank God), I don’t think their is any piece of clothing that’s uglier or more potentially embarrassing than leather chaps…with the Snuggie in a close second.

Neon colored stuff. Back in the early 90’s, every kid was sporting clothing with some neon colored stuff on them. I have a picture from 3rd grade where I’m actually wearing neon hat, green neon framed sunglasses, neon shirt, neon MC Hammer pants, shoes with neon laces, and those “slap braces” so popular back then…in neon green…

The worst mens trend has to be skinny jeans. If you’re going to wear something that tight you better be part of some dance group. Or maybe even popped colars, that may have worked in the 70’s but your pink polo shirt shoudln’t even be out of the trash let alone have a popped colar.
