The time has come for Chrysler to start closing up shop on there 3,200 dealerships around the nation. By June 9th, Chrysler will have begun eliminating 789 dealerships, a quarter of the total 3,200. Unsuspected dealerships received word yesterday via UPS mail. With the option to appeal, many of these dealerships were quite involved with there small town communities and losing such a big business will definitely affect the city as a whole.

The dealerships targeted for the June 9th closings have the option to appeal, but most are struggling just to stay afloat. Chrysler is now going through the worst of times. Down 46% in sales from last year and more than 16.8 Billion dollars, the Detroit based car manufacture is currently in bankruptcy.

General Motors in another auto manufacturer that will be bearing the bad news to there franchisee’s this. They have disclosed that they will not renew any franchise contracts after September of 2010. It will be interesting to see just how US automakers reply to our “Great Recession.” Electric cars seem to be the car of the future and many of these manufactures will have to reassess there business models. Until then, will have to live without those local wacky waiving inflatable arm flailing tube man commercials.

Uh, don't you know the difference between "THEIR" and "THERE"? Obviously not, since you used the latter version FOUR times in the above paragraphs when the former version was the correct one. Also, in the sentence beginning with "General Motors", I do believe you neglected to finish the sentence. C'mon, let's proofread and not rely on Spellcheck to do our work for us!!!!!!!!!!!

This is very unfortunate but it's part of the automobile industry evolution. I am hopeful that those looking for jobs will land on their feet. Ryan

Imagine owning a pizza parlor. The government decides one day there are too many pizza parlors so you have to close your store, let go of your employees and just take the loss. This is what is happening to the Chrysler and GM dealerships. This is a huge injustice and where does it stop. Hi Everyone, We are asking everyone to email to their congressmen or congresswomen regarding a proposed bill HR 2743, which will re-instate all the terminated dealers for Chrysler and GM. So far there are 70 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, but we need more support. Please type in your name and address at the bottom of the letter and email it. We have attached the proposed legislation and a list of co-sponsors thus far. Click on this link to get your local legislator’s email address: http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/index.html. We truly appreciate any help you can give us. United States House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 Dear Congressman, There has been an unwarranted assault on the United States Automobile Franchise System. Through bankruptcy the manufacturers have terminated thousand of dealers, not for the sake of cost, but for an unproven belief that fewer dealerships are better. By doing this the manufacturers have taken away the dealer’s states rights for remedy (State Franchise Laws), are forcing mass layoffs on large and small communities that you represent, are inconveniencing the consumer and are severely hurting local city, state and federal taxes income. There will be few choices when shopping for a vehicle, as well as having to travel further for warranty work. Many of the affected dealers will need to downsize or close. They have been major supporters in the local communities. And many will be forced into both business and personal bankruptcy. All is not yet over. Thanks to the non-stop persistence of dealer Jack Fitzgerald, there is a bill in the United States House that will reinstate our dealerships. The bill number is H.R. 2743. I believe this is the most important bill dealers have ever introduced. This bill will give all dealers the rights that were granted them in their individual states. We have some momentum but we must act now. We presently have 70 co-sponsors but need many more. We are asking you to sign on to this bill which will not cost the U.S. Taxpayer. I need your help. I need your support for H.R 2743. This bill restores the economic rights of General Motors and Chrysler car dealers as they existed prior to each company's bankruptcies. It will not cost the government or the American people any money. I would appreciate it if you would sign on as a co-sponsor. Thank you for your support. I know we all treasure our State Franchise Laws. Please help in actively gaining support for H.R. 2743 today. Thank you!
