LAX Baggage Accident (Photos & Video)

A large baggage container crippled a Japan Airlines Boeing 747 earlier this afternoon at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) when it was sucked straight into the plane’s left outboard engine. The reason behind this incident? Apparently the baggage cart was too close to the airplane and the vacuum created by the engine’s air intake was powerful enough to suck the 5 x 5 x 4 feet metal container box straight in. Pretty crazy.

At the time of the incident there were 245 passengers and 18 crew members on board the airplane. Fortunately however none were injured and all were quickly transferred to a new flight. The Boeing 747 was then brought to a nearby hangar where FBI and airport officials are currently inspecting it.

Also fortunate: the baggage container was empty at the time.
