Sometimes people slip right under your radar for years until some random thing calls them to your attention. Jesse “The Body” Ventura is such a person. Sure, I knew him as the professional wrestler from WWF fame (back when it was the WWF), had seen him in several of my favorite bad-but-fun movies (“Predator”, “The Running Man”, etc.), and was amazed when he successfully ran for and won the Governor’s seat in Minnesota. But I had no idea that he’d been a Navy SEAL, nor that he’d once been a bodyguard for the Rolling Stones.
From the sounds of it, Jesse Ventura’s had a pretty interesting life so far, with no indication that that will change. He’s definitely one of our most outspoken political figures, and if you do the research, you’ll find that his political stances are not what you might immediately presume them to be.
In the video referenced here — which I believe is from a recent signing to promote his latest book “Don’t Start the Revolution Without Me!” and is embedded below — Ventura speaks candidly about his interrogation by the CIA shortly after he entered office, and his experience with them during his trip to Cuba and his meeting with Fidel Castro.
Despite the fact that he’s seen rocking in his seat, and the somewhat unkempt nature of his hair, he appears to be genuinely communicating truth; these aren’t the ravings of a man attempting to cash in on the notoriety of saying outrageous things about the government. Jesse Ventura is clearly a man who’s seen a few things in his life, and isn’t afraid to tell the world about them, and what he thinks it all means. Consider me officially interested in picking up his books, and glad that I took the time to find out more. Who else are we overlooking?
