Social networking seems to be on everyone’s lips these days. Yeah, and Twitter. Everyone and their Mom is on it. Literally. And you guys probably know by now that Ashton Kutcher beat CNN in his quest to gain 1 million followers, so any big Corporation who doesn’t have a big social networking presence is screwed. Right?
Well, MTV is trying to bring back a version of that slightly annoying show called “TRL,” which was hosted by Carson Daly and featured throngs of young, teenage girls who were screaming for the latest pop stars of the day. I remember my guy friends would refer to that show as the, “death of civilization as we know it.” I never thought of it as quite so dramatic, but yeah, I won’t lie…I tuned into that show fairly often though never admitting it in front of them.
Anyway, British model/host/Fashionista, Alexa Chung, will be hosting a new MTV variety show called, “The Alexa Chung Show,” which will feature “ live celebrity interviews and musical performances with a social-media component powered by both Facebook and Twitter.” She’s a popular TV presence back in the UK where she’s hosted Popworld, Freshly Squeezed with Rick Edwards, and Vanity Lair.
My only question is… I know the guys will be watching because this girl’s a model, but will she get all the American youngsters’ tuning into the show via facebook, twitter, and of course, this old thing called a TV?
Oh, and I have one admission to make. I actually was in the audience for TRL one year and hope that the footage of me pretending to clap my hands and be excited is in some control room, never to be released.
